A Landmark Antitrust Fine Issued for Procedural Breaches and Recent Updates on Iran Sanctions
The European Commission fined Eurofield and Unanime Sport for providing an incomplete response to an antitrust information request—the first use of this power in an antitrust probe and a sign that competition authorities are stepping up enforcement of procedural breaches. Separately, on 29 September 2025, the Council of the European Union reimposed a variety of sanctions on Iran. These sanctions had been lifted on condition since 2015. The reinstatement of these sanctions brings a host of compliance-related obligations for Japanese companies operating in the EU that have trade, finance, and energy dealings with Iran.
